The family drop-in yesterday was a success!  Thank you again to all of the families that were able to come and see what we have been learning throughout our Bulb Unit.  If anyone took pictures and would like to send them to me I will gladly post them on the website for all to see!

Exciting things have been happening in KB this week!  In reader’s workshop we have introduced 3 vowels (a, i, o).  We are beginning to stretch out words to hear the sound in the middle and we have been surprised to find that we hear /a/, /i/, and /o/ in the middle of lots of words!  This has also been helping us during writer’s workshop as we continue to stretch out words.  This week in writer’s workshop students were introduced to a new strategy that writers use- Writers write words that match their picture.  Students have begun thinking about words they could add to the bottom of their picture to tell their readers a little bit about what their story is about.

Our unit on retelling is well under way!  We have read many versions of The Three Billy Goats Gruff   and we have  been focusing on the strategy of retelling by thinking about what happened at the beginning, middle, and end of each story.  We have also  spent time talking about how the different versions are similar and different. Next week we will begin reading different versions of The Gingerbread Man.  If you have any versions of familiar fairytales at home we would love to borrow them! Thanks!

Joseph was our person of the week!  While he was sharing his poster he was most proud to share the pictures of his sister, Reese, and the picture of him at the BC hockey game!  Joseph’s mom and Reese joined us this morning to share a new version of The Three Billy Goats Gruff that we hadn’t read before!  We found many differences in this version than the other versions we had read.
