Welcome back! I hope you and your family enjoyed a relaxing vacation week. It was exciting to hear about everyone’s adventures when we got back to school on Monday.
Before vacation we celebrated a variety of things including the 100th day of school, Valentine’s Day, and birthdays!
Our 100th day celebration included games and activities that celebrated the fact that we are 100 days smarter! The kids felt especially proud to walk under our “KB is 100 Days Smarter” banner when they entered the classroom. It was also fun to see all of the different collections of 100 items. Check them out!
Also before vacation Alex G. was our “Person of the Week”!
This week we cam back from vacation ready to get back to our routine and ready to learn!
On Monday Giselle brought in her poster for “Person of the Week” and we were all on awe when we learned that it had lights and blinked! It was definitely a fun poster to observe!
Balanced Literacy:
This week we jumped right back into literacy centers that included activities and games that reinforced and deepened our understanding of the letters we have learned so far as well as rhyming words. We are working hard to remember that rhyming words are words that have the same sound at the end. This week we also have been working with the word wall words that we have learned and we also learned two new words- “we” and “and”.
This week in writer’s workshop students are continuing to add details to their stories. This week’s mini-lessons showed students how to share how they were feeling with their readers. We learned that showing how we are feeling on the inside is sometimes hard to show through our drawings, so students are working on sharing this information through their writing. Students were also introduced to the idea of continuing their writing onto a second page that consists of all lines. This helps encourage students to continue writing about their story.
Poetry Corner:
Let’s Go Fly a Kite
Oh, oh, oh let’s go fly a kite,
Up to the highest height!
Let’s go fly a kite,
and send it soaring!
Up through the atmosphere,
Up where the air is clear.
Oh, let’s go fly a kite!
