This week we jumped right into our first reader’s workshop unit! We spent this week starting to learn that words are formed when letters come together and we discovered that our names are actually words! We also spent time singing songs and playing games to help us learn the names of all of our friends in KB as well. One song we sang is “Jack Be Nimble”. We sang this song for each friend in KB by substituting Jack’s name for our names. We even got to jump over a candlestick! Below are a few pictures that show us jumping in action!
Poem:
Jack Be Nimble
Jack be nimble,
Jack be quick,
Jack jump over the candlestick.
____________ be nimble,
____________ be quick,
____________ jump over the candlestick.
*Home/School Connection: Look in your child’s Friday folder for a copy of this poem with a class list. With your child you can cut the names apart, insert them into the poem, and say the poem with their names. Ask your kindergartner to tell you about some friends he/she has met at school! Enjoy!
