And we’re off and learning!

And we’re off and learning!

This week we kicked off our first Reader’s Workshop unit all about our names. We’re learning that our names are actually words! Words are made when letters come to together in a particular order. We’re quickly making the connection that our names have a certain amount of letters and only when these letters are written in the correct order can our names be spelled and read. In the pictures below you will see us busily working on our name posters that will be posted in the classroom when they are completed!

This week we have also begun exploring our math materials. In order for us to be able to use our manipulatives in meaningful ways we need some time to explore and play with them to see what we can do.

Some families have asked about the kindergarten songs that we have been learning and singing at school. It sounds like many have enjoyed singing them at home too! Here are the lyrics to a few favorites so far. Stay tuned for more songs coming soon…

Happy singing 🙂

Doughnut Shop

Oh, I walked into a doughnut shop

for something good to eat,

‘cause I was so hungry

from my head to my feet,

so I picked up a doughnut

and I wiped off the grease,

and I handed the lady a five- cent piece.

Well she looked at the nickel

and she looked at me,

and she said, “Hey, mister,

can’t you plainly see,

there’s a hole in the nickel

and it goes right through?”

Says I, “There’s a hole in the doughnut too!”

Shave and a haircut, shampoo!

The Fishing Song

Have you ever been a-fishin’

On a bright and sunny day?

When you see the little fishies

Swimming up and down the bay.

With their hands in their pocket,

And their pockets in their pants.

And all the little fishies do the

Hoochie, coochie dance!

Mrs. Wishy Washy

 Way down in the valley

where nobody goes,

There’s a wishy washy washer woman

washing her clothes.

She goes ooh! ah!

She goes ooh! ah!

That’s how the washy woman

washes her clothes.

Da-da-da da, da,

Boogedy boogedy boo

Da-da-da da, da,

Boogedy boogedy boo

That’s how the washy woman

washes her clothes.

Little Green Frog

Mm ah! Went the little green frog one day

Mm ah! Went the little green frog

Mm ah! Went the little green frog one day

And its eyes went mm mm ah!

But we all know that frogs go na-na-na-na-na,

na-na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na,

we all know that frogs go, na-na-na-na-na,

They don’t go mm mm ah!
